Monkey see monkey say

She. Repeats. Everything.
We went scavenging for boxes this morning so we could pack up a few things this weekend. Her new favorite word? "liquor store".

Secrets

She puts her face right up to the bowl (so that her nose is almost IN the water) and whispers "tell Fishie secret".

Exhausting

Vehemently defending her personally-mandated 4 feet of personal space during playgroup this morning really took its toll on Lola. She has been napping for almost FOUR hours. Apparently being anti-social is exhausting. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

A letter to old friends

Dear friends that have known me since college or before:
You know that article of clothing that I should have gotten rid of 10 years ago, but was still holding on to for some unknown reason - even though it didn't fit, was out of style, was never in style, or was any combination of those three options?  Well, I finally cleaned out my closet and donated it to Goodwill.  Unless you are thinking about the blue and white cotton skirt that I inherited from Becky and Leslie, in which case - I just couldn't bear to let that go.

Love,
Your eternally style-challenged friend.

Up, up, and Away!

My mom sent me this via email with the subject line "Kind of cute".  Which I think is code for, "Oh look, it's a super hero that is based upon our shared trait of compulsive anxiety to an oftentimes mentally destructive level."

Freckles, Dimples, Pimples, and Nipples

Whoever decided to make these four terms in the English language so very, very, similar is getting a big ol' chuckle (wherever he is) every time Lola decides to talk about her body parts (which is more and more frequent these days).

Death, Taxes, and other Certainties

They say the only things certain in life are death and taxes.  Here's a few more that I'm pretty confident in.

1.  If I need to be somewhere after Lola's nap (doctors appointment, playdate, really anything that involves a set start time), she will sleep on and on and on - inevitably causing us to be rushing out the door in a frenzy or (more likely) late.

2.  If I have a migraine, got no sleep the previous night, am sick, or need a mid-day snooze for any reason, she will not nap at all.  Or maybe sleep for 45 minutes, but that's it.  This certainty also applies to days in which I have a lot of paperwork to complete, or any other project that might directly benefit me.

3.  If, either during her nap or in the morning before she wakes up, I decide to sneak in a shower - she will wake up crying and cranky exactly 3 minutes into my shower (approximately when the shampoo hits my hair).

4.  If I say to myself, "there's no way I'm getting in the shower, she'll be up any second," she will, in fact, sleep on for another hour at least. Leaving me twiddling my thumbs and wishing I would have bathed.  However, if I do decide to cut my losses and jump in the shower at any point, Certainty Number 3 will apply.
