Lola: OH NO! Where are the stars?
Me: Don't worry honey, they're up there - you just can't see them tonight.
Lola: Why do I can't see the stars?
Me: Because they are hidden behind the clouds.
Lola: Why are they hidden behind the clouds?
Me: Because it's a cloudy night and there are a lot of clouds in the sky.
Lola: Why it is a cloudy night?
Me: That's just what the weather is tonight - sometimes it's sunny, sometimes rainy, sometimes cloudy.
Lola: But why is it cloudy?
Me: (sigh) I don't know sweetie - maybe it's a low pressure front that has moved in.
(I don't actually know what a "low pressure front" is - just grasping at straws).
Lola: Why is the low pressure front moved in?
Me: Lola, I DO. NOT. KNOW. I don't know anything else about weather honey, I'm sorry.
Pause. Silence.
She's given up. I can finally take a breath.
And then.
Lola: Why you don't know anything else about weather?
Sigh.
