Party-going

In the midst of a major emotional breakdown (Lola's) over something I can't even remember (pancakes? the fact that her and Allen aren't twins? my lack of control over what time the sun rises or sets?) I tried to change the topic by telling Lola we received a birthday party invitation today.  These are her words.  Verbatim.

Me: Guess what? Your friend Caitlin at school is having a birthday party and invited all of the friends from your class.
Lola: I don't really feel like I'm up for a party right now.
Me: Ok.  It's not today - it's in January.  But we can talk about it later and decide.
Lola: No. I don't want to go to anyone's birthday party.
Me: Alright.  I'll let Caitlin's mommy know you can't make it.  I thought you would have enjoyed it because it's at one of those bouncy-house place.
Lola: Hmmm.  Maybe I should go.  It IS her birthday after all.

Lauren, I feel you on this one! We seem to go through all of that almost on a daily basis. Lee is baffled by the drama.
And I don't know how to explain it.

Miss you!
