So much to say

Oh geez.  The 23rd of June and only my 5th post!! There's an excuse - there always is.  The kids and I have been staying at my parents house this month since we closed on our house a little early.  Ben has been staying in Greenville with a long-time friend, until just today when he finally joined us in Atlanta.  Which means. .  .  he is DONE WITH RESIDENCY.  Holy Shit (pardon my french).  I cannot believe we have actually made it to the other side.  We still have one year of fellowship to complete (in CT) but at least we have closed the long 5-year chapter of residency.  We will remain in Atlanta until just before the fourth of July holiday, when we will head up north for our year-long stint in West Hartford.

Leaving Greenville was bittersweet. We are thrilled to be moving forward on this professional journey, but sad to say goodbye to people who have been a part of our lives for the past half-decade.  Leaving our house was particularly difficult since we brought our babies home to that house.  Remembering the days when we painted (and repainted) the nursery and wrote special love notes to our children on the walls made me all swelly and teary and heart-full.  Lola took her first steps on the hardwood floors that we laid by hand.  Ben has constantly reminded me that our home is where our family is - and that has made the transition a lot easier.

The kids have loved being in Atlanta with Gigi and Poppy.  We've had lots of good family time including visits with Papa Morris, Big Poppy, Julie, Craig, and the boys, and the Aunts.  We also spent a week in Hilton Head with the Habif family which was exhausting but amazing.  Lola was addicted to the beach, finding seashells, and swimming in the pool.  Allen was a champ at being cute and sleeping in the bathroom.

Lola talks like she is 35 years old.  It's scary. The other day she said to me, "I have a great idea.  Perhaps I can have a bite of my donut before my lunch, and then eat the rest after I'm finished."  How can you possibly argue with that?  She is a total mini-me.  My parents are still close with many of the friends they had from when I was a child and they can't get over the similarities.  She is getting more and more independent every day.  Still totally a daddy's girl.  She loves anything pink and purple, painted toe-nails, and covering herself with band-aids. She lives in her pink Nike flip flops which she insists on wearing with everything.  She's taking swim lessons while we are in Atlanta and is doing great.  No face in the water yet, but there is still time.  She can write her name (we blessed her with a fairly easy one to pen).  She can't really make a legible "A", but when I try to correct her she says, "No mommy, I made a lowercase one instead."  She loves to jump (everywhere - but especially on the bed - an activity that we don't particularly condone) and twirl and show you her ballet moves.  She also enjoys singing along to the radio, but not the songs that are actually playing on the radio - just her own renditions set vaguely to the music that is playing.  I sometimes turn down the music in the car to hear her but she insists that I turn it up so she can sing along.  I, on the other hand, am expressly forbidden from singing, dancing, or otherwise enjoying myself musically.  If I so much as shake a shoulder to the beat she calls out "No Dancing!" from the backseat. She holds hands (which is the absolute best) and melts my heart with her unprompted "I love you so much, Mommy"

Allen is my little love bug.  He's always up for cuddles and snuggles - which we missed out on when Lola was that age (we used to call her our sack-of-potatoes since she made no effort to hold on when being held) fortunately she has come around in that area.  He loves playing on the floor with his bag of toys and can be found with his head half way inside the bag searching for just the right cup or book.  He sleeps great (2 to 3 naps a day, depending) and eats anything you put in front of him.  He loves fruit the most - but doesn't really discriminate as long as he gets to pick it up and feed himself.  He coos and "talks" loudly when he wants your attention.  Rarely cries at all (big change from when he was first born).  He just learned to wave this weekend and seeing him flop that little hand around in the air is just amazing.  He isn't crawling yet (he suffers from what our pediatrician calls a case of "fat happy baby syndrome")  He will scoot around in a circle on his tush and can transition from sitting to tummy and back again by doing a full-on center split and rolling his hips back or forth.  He loves to be held, loves putting his head on your shoulder for a snuggle, and LAUGHS out loud - big ol' belly laughs - mostly at Lola who knows just how to get him going.

I do have some pictures on my phone that I will try to get up soon. I haven't really had access to a computer since Allen is sleeping in the office - but hopefully I'll gear back up as we get settled into CT.  Off to bed . . .
